Ester's first flight!

Just got back from Vienna. Ester's first trip abroad. And everything went just fine! Exept for me not being able to taste all the nice wines at Winzerhof Iro (Andrea's parents wineyard where we were staying).

First night in her own bed!

Well... almost... but I'm so proud! :)

She's 7 weeks old now, and up until now she's slept in our bed which is very convenient when she wakes up during the night and is hungry. However, as she's growing bigger and stronger, she's started to move around, and somehow she manages to crawl REALLY close to me, and then she starts kicking and hitting in her sleep. As if I'm not tired enough already!

So, yesterday I put her in her own bed at about 9 pm, and she went to sleep without any problem. She woke up at 10 pm and wanted to eat, then again at midnight, and then she was a bit restless and I had to walk around with her a bit, put her down a few times but she got upset, and finally at 1 am she went back to sleep. Then at 4 am she was hungry again, and then I was so tired I took her to our bed, and fell asleep while she was eating, and then she woke me up again at 7.30 this morning. So, not the whole night in her own bed, but still! :)

Update after 3 weeks

Today Ester's been weighed and measured again: 456o grams and 55,5 cm. Growing quickly :)

She's not quite appreciating the "baby gym" yet but it makes a cute picture, right? Time just seems to fly by. We have visitors almost every day, or appointments with the nurse, or going grocery shopping, and all these normal things seem to take so much longer these days... Even though she's the best behaved baby ever, just feeding and putting clothes on, and changing diapers takes so much time. And changing clothes after vomiting, or leaking diapers... and feeding again... :)

But we're at least functioning more or less normally. Have lots of visits, met friends for coffee, played mah jong, and I've even worked a bit (had a lunch meeting with Sabine and Isabella, discussing a project we're working on while enjoying sushi :))

Oh, and we've booked a flight to Vienna! Going to visit Andrea 29th nov-3rd dec, she's celebrating her PhD dissertation. Will be so much fun! I really hope travelling with Ester will be easy and painless :)

She's growing :) http://fatbat.pixbox.se

Today we've been on our first visit at the health care centre and met "our" nurse, Linda. This first meeting was fairly short, mostly to weigh and measure Ester, and everything seemed fine. As we've suspected she's grown, compared to last weeks 3500 grams she's gained almost half a kilo in one week, and now she weighs 3980 grams. She's also grown in height, and is now a stunning 53,5 cm, 3 more than when she was born! And on wedneysday Linda will make a longer "house call", to make sure that we're all doing ok, to discuss breast feeding etc... I hope she'll approve of our home :)

Oh, and my othe mission today have been creating an online fotoalbum, there's a link in the list to the right, and the adress is: http://fatbat.pixbox.se Enjoy!

Four generations

Yesterday grandma, grandpa and great grandma visited, and everyone agreed that Ester is an exceptionally beautiful and strong child :)

Ester's wardrobe was also updated with some pink outfits, dresses and other girlie stuff. I'll be sure to update you all with pictures once we've tried them out!

Ester Nova Hägglund - she's finally here!

Ester was born 2006-10-02, at 6.28 pm. Weight: 3810 gram. Lenght: 50,5 cm. And of course she's perfect. We got back from the hospital today, they kept us an extra day to monitor my blood pressure, otherwise we would have left yesterday. I'll just quickly post some pictures here so you can all see how beautiful she is... You can always check the swedish blog for more pics as well... I'll write more soon.

Full time today!

Again, I was so certain it would have arrived by now. But apparently it's not in a hurry... or as my friend Barn put it "god he is a patient little sh*t isn't he ;)". Or maybe just lazy. Might get that from me...

Yesterday I realized that maybe I should have started blogging a bit sooner. I'm afraid you're all getting a rather one-sided view of my pregnancy. I was actually feeling quite good the first part; spent easter in Barcelona, had my half-time-graduation-thing at work, spent almost 2 weeks in germany during the football (soccer) world championships, celebrated my sister's wedding (I was one of the toast masters!), and had lots of energy! It's just these final months with high blood pressure and all sorts of horrible side effects that's been a bit too much...

And I actually thought my body would be able to handle pregnancy a bit better. Hopefully there's still time for it to proove that there's some truth to the old expression "child bearing hips" and that the rather generous chest I've been blessed with does actually come with a practical function too. I mean, these last days my body is becoming frighteningly similar to the Venus of Willendorf,(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_of_Willendorf ), and that ought to imply some sort of natural talent for motherhood... right?

Deadline: Tomorrow!

So, the calculated date for birth is tomorrow. I was so sure it would have arrived by then, but nothing seems to happen... but then again, they say +-2 weeks is normal, so I guess I shouldn't complain so much... Anyway, we're invited to a 30th birthday party tomorrow, and what could be better than going into labour there? What a birthday present!

  • Walking without pain
  • Red wine!!
  • Sushi (the real stuff, not vegetarian crap)
  • Turning over in bed without excruciating pain

the final week! (or...?)

9 months. An eternity. But now there's only a few days left... 30th september is the calculated delivery date and I really do hope it'll arrive by then! Visited the hospital again yesterday and was thoroughly examined. Since nothing is wrong (more than the high blood pressure, which is kept down by medication and seems to stay at a reasonable level) we just have to wait... Got a new appointment to check everything again on monday, but the doctor who examined me didn't think I'd have to come back. I hope she's right.
